Flu Myths

MYTH #1:
Healthy people don’t need to be vaccinated.
Even very healthy people can get the flu and it impacts people differently. The flu is serious and can be deadly, each year thousands of people die from it. The Centers for Disease Control or the CDC (the national federal health agency) sets guidelines that the medical industry follows. It has recommended that everyone six months and older get the vaccine.
MYTH #2:
You don't need to get a flu shot every year.
Getting an annual flu shot is important. For Alliance members the vaccine is free. The flu viruses are constantly changing from one season to the next. So getting vaccinated each year is important to make sure you have immunity to the new strains most likely to cause an outbreak.
MYTH #3:
It might be too late to get the flu vaccine.
Even though it's best to get vaccinated as soon as the flu vaccine is available in the fall, getting the vaccine later still can be helpful. Even in January, there are still a few months left in the flu season, so it's still a good idea to get protected.
